The Conservative Friends of Eurasia and the Embassy of Kazakhstan are delighted to host a special online event to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the greatest Kazakh poet, philosopher, and enlightener Abai Kunanbaiuly.
The brightest representative of the 19th century Kazakh intellectual aristocracy, Abai is widely considered the founding father of Kazakh written literature. He was also a cultural reformer and thanks to his translations of the Russian and European classics acted as a vital bridge between Kazakh, Russian and European cultures.
The event follows this month’s groundbreaking launch of a seminal production by Cambridge University Press and Kazakhstan’s National Bureau of Translations of the first complete English-language volume of Abai’s poems and treatises.
It will also provide an opportunity to discuss deepening cultural, educational and commercial ties between Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom.
